Nai Harn Beach Activities
What to Do in Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Phuket with its excellent water quality. It's encompassed on both sides by jungle-and-palm covered mountains and there's a large freshwater lagoon inland. Never overcrowded, even in high season, Nai Harn's usually busier at weekends as it is popular with both Thais and expats.
Many tourists who come to Phuket never make it to experience this wonderful stretch of sand. At the southern end the lagoon flows into the sea, creating a stream that children love to play in. All year round the water is a comfortable 29°C. Flat, lake-like crystal-clear water invites you for a dip from November to May.
Beach and Lakeside Relaxation
Nai Harn Beach is about one km long. It’s a tranquil spot and is far away from Phuket’s touristic areas. Many people come here to swim in the beautiful blue calm and warm water (perfect in high season from November to May). As it's so picturesque, the whole area is popular with joggers. A lap around the Nai Harn Lake with a leg including the whole length of the beach is around 2.5km (1.5 miles).
In low season, you might find a good number of enthusiastic surfers riding the waves. You can just relax and enjoy the atmosphere or work on your tan; no one will bother you on the beach in low season. Sunbeds line the entire length of Nai Harn Beach. Sunbed vendors rent a set of two sunbeds, a table and a parasol for about 200 baht per day.
Once in a while you might get a few vendors trying to sell some knick-knacks. A polite ‘no’ is enough to send them on their way. There are public (paying) toilets at the car park (northern part of the beach) and a paying toilet and showers at the beach bamboo restaurants at southern beach end.
Beach Volley Ball
Apart from sunbathing the main activities in Nai Harn Beach are water based but there is a volleyball net which is used frequently, if you fancy a game just join in, anyone can play.
Cycling Tour around Nai Harn
A fantastic way to see real local life and the island’s charm is through a bicycle tour. A recommended company is Action Holidays Phuket, Bike Tours Thailand which is based on Kwang Road, south of Phuket Town.
The bike tour will allow you to appreciate the plantations, jungles, local villages and beaches among other things (don’t worry, tours come with a fully equipped support vehicle). Anybody who is fit can take the tour even if you have not ridden a bike for years. The company is well prepared and has had guests aged from seven to 70.
If you take the full day tour, you will start up north of Phuket and end it in Nai Harn Beach later in the day. The tour includes mountain bike, helmet, English-speaking tour guide and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. Don’t miss the chance to ride along!

Kayaking in Nai Harn
In high season it is possible to rent kayaks on both Nai Harn and Ya Nui beaches.
Snorkeling in Nai Harn
Some of the best snorkeling in Phuket can be found in front of the Royal Phuket Yacht Club. Snorkeling opportunities stretch all the way out past Ao Sane (a small beach to the end of the bay). Equipment can be rented easily on the beach or bought at the nearby shops.
Surfing in Nai Harn Beach
At the south end of this beach there is a permanent sandbank that gives a good and often fast ride, even in the smallest swells. At the northern end (right next to the Royal Phuket Yacht Club) there is a beach-and-reef break in the corner. This break can hold large swells and can at times get pretty potent. From May to October at the northern end of the beach, the waves are a little small for surfing but the perfect size for boogie boarding. Kids love to spend the whole day riding the waves in a relatively safe environment and it doesn't take long to learn. Boards can be bought in the shops around Nai Harn Beach or rented from the sunbed rental people. Although generally quieter than the other beaches in Phuket, rental jet-skis do make an appearance from time to time.
