Your first time in Bang Tao Beach can be a little overwhelming since, at about 6 km long, it's one of Phuket's biggest. There's a lot to see and do, including the island's (some say the world's) best beach clubs and great boutique shopping. This is also where you'll find some of Phuket's best hotels and restaurants. If you're looking for the best luxury travel experience in Phuket, you'll find it in Bang Tao.
It's not all high class and high cost, though. As this Bang Tao Beach survival guide will show you, there are some great attractions for tight budgets. This is also one of the more family-friendly destinations, far from the extreme nightlife of Patong. Make sure you don't miss any of the best bits of Bang Tao on your first visit by checking out our list of the must-sees.
Bang Tao Beach is Phuket’s second-longest strip of sand, after Mai Khao Beach. Along its 6 km length, you’ll find a lot of variety of scenery, restaurants, hotels and activities. Right at the northern end is Layan Beach, which is mostly natural and unspoilt. Towards the southern end, you'll find the swanky beach clubs. Somewhere in the middle is the Laguna complex, with its collection of five-star hotels and restaurants. There maybe aren't many things to see other than the beach but, with such a great beach, what else do you need for your first time in Bang Tao?
WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT BANG TAO:
The beautiful long beach
Excellent choice of first-class restaurants
Good boutique shopping opportunities
Some of the world's best beach clubs
Good place to learn to surf (between May and November)
Admittedly, Bang Tao Beach isn’t famous for its unique things to see and do. It has the beach and the beach clubs and not a whole lot else. That's not necessarily a bad thing, of course. If you're looking for a great beach holiday, you can't go far wrong with Bang Tao. The sand is perhaps a little grainy in places, but there's certainly plenty of it! The sea is usually as flat as a mirror between December and April. With virtually no rocks near the shore, it's great for a cooling dip between sunbathing sessions.
