Case Work
The Public Welfare Department (DPW) in Phuket is underfunded and
its resources are stretched to the limit. It has always been the
aim of CWP to work together with DPW in the investigation of abuse
and the follow up of individual cases. One problem is that we have
been unable to persuade qualified and experienced social workers
to come to help us in Phuket. We can't compete with Bangkok salaries
and the Phuket cost of living is high. Presently we are forced to
ask Bangkok agencies to travel south and help us with legal and
psychological problems although we should be doing this ourselves.
We attempt to offer an alternative avenue by which to report abuse
and have qualified staff to help the children involved.
Training Center
Our Centre in Rawai is mostly a book and toy lending
service for local children but we also offer a space to play, t
practise computer and get occasional vacational training opportunities
(when generous trainers can be found).
