Bangtao Beachfront Restaurants

Beach Dining in Bangtao

Bangtao beachfront restaurants offer that most delightful of experiences - dining with your toes in the sand. With Thailand's regulations around use of public land (including beaches) this is actually a surprisingly rare experience, even in Phuket. However, Bangtao Beach has a generous share of great places to eat.

Most of the available eateries are pretty similar to each other, with bamboo tables and chairs in the shade of colourful beach umbrellas and a menu of cheap and tasty Thai and international food. Some stand out for their unique style, others for their unexpected menu items and some for their fantastic friendly service. There are also several beach clubs and first-class restaurants to be found along Bangtao Beach - more than anywhere else in Phuket. Take a look at our list of places offering beach dining in Bangtao and see which best suits your tastes.

The Beach Bar & Grill

As with most of the restaurants along this part of Bangtao Beach, The Beach serves mostly Thai food, with a few western options. The list of western dishes available is a little longer than average, including fish fingers, pizza and various soups. Recommended dishes include the Hawaiian ham and bacon sandwiches (230 baht), fried shrimp with tamarind sauce (200 baht) and barbecue pork spare ribs (300 baht). The bar is quite a fun place, with signposts pointing the way to distant countries (which costs 10 baht to take a photo of) and a friendly resident dog (free to photograph).

The Beach Cuisine stands out as one of the most highly-rated restaurants on Bangtao Beach. Prices are higher than the average for the area, with pan-fried dory fillet costing 250 baht and a grilled tuna steak at 350 baht, but many of the ingredients are imported, including the Canadian lobsters. Chef and owner Maxine is renowned for his friendliness, regularly coming out to chat with diners.

The menu is written in English, Russian and Thai, and contains mostly Thai food, with a few international options like sandwiches and burgers. The quality isn't astounding, but it's pretty much what you'd expect for an average dish priced well below 200 baht. Popular options include the sandwiches, as well as the green curry and pad Thai.

Captain Kook Seafood

The strange name of Captain Kook Seafood apparently comes from a typo - it was supposed to be named after Captain Cook. It seems unlikely that the famous seafarer would have dined on deep-fried shrimp (200 baht), spaghetti Bolognese (150 baht) or tom yam soup (180 baht). The menu at the restaurant also includes a range of Thai and international dishes, with prices averaging between 150 and 200 baht. The seating is right on the beach, with bamboo chairs and tables, red tablecloths and blue beach umbrellas.
