Situated in downtown Patong Beach, the Burasari is right at the centre of things but you'd never guess it once inside and away from the street. Throughout the corridors and rooms the constant background swishing and splashing of the hotel's waterfalls and swimming pools successfully eliminates Patong's busy traffic noise outside on Ruamjai Road. Arrival
Burasari's lobby is a bustling scene. Step in off the street and you will see gilded burgundy columns rising from the white-tiled floor, water hyacinth easy chairs stationed over by the side of a swimming pool and the busy comings and goings of a successful hotel's reception area. The white cashier and reception desks face each other from opposite sides of the foyer; it's very ornate and oriental and purple tulip-shaped light shades add to this touch. |
Room
Our Grand Premier poolside room is lightness personified. Fitted out with white floor tiles, off-white mesh and heavy curtains, faux-pine surfaces and white linen bedding with colourful cushions, the room has a spacious feel. There is also generous drawer space and a handsome full-length mirror by the double sliding windows leading out to the poolside terrace. The terrace itself features stone steps leading down into the pool and a clever inlaid safety handle for support. It also has a wooden towel rack, slatted wooden deck flooring and a daybed with triangular 'mon' Thai cushions. Inside, a flat-screen TV sits next to complementary coffee-and-tea-making facilities and a fridge housing the free-of-charge and replenished daily mini-bar. The king-size bed is firm to the touch and above it is an attractive pastel-hued textile montage on which a framed collage of black and white Thai-themed photos hangs.
Opposite the bathroom door, two adjoining wardrobes provide plenty of hanging space and in these can be found a safety box, slippers, a hairdryer and an umbrella. Just by the bathroom door is a three-quarter-length mirror. A welcome extra is a beach bag complete with large beach towels, packed and ready to go as Patong Beach is three minutes away. Burasari also offers nine 'mood rooms' each eclectically distinctive, furnished and recently fitted out in completely different ways. They are: Sangria Delight; Smooth Whiskey; Serene Sand; Blue Breeze; Mocha Spice; Thai Elegance; Tropical Home; Sweet Dream and Glam Splash and cater for all tastes from honeymooning couples to long-stay guests to pool lovers. All mood rooms feature generous terraces, outdoor lounge areas, Jacuzzis, music tailored to meet the room's needs and flat screen plasma TV's. All the resort rooms have free high-speed wireless internet access and handicap accessible rooms are available upon request. |
Bathroom
The bathroom features wooden louvered and hinged partitions over the bath and a slatted door. There is a raised sink on a solid-state bathroom worktop with a fascinating arrangement of cut-glass harlequins framing the main mirror as well as providing a backdrop to the toilet, resulting in a warmer-than-usual tone to the lighting and an extra-dimensional feel to the room. The bath is large with a rain-shower over its centre and the walls are green-tiled. Two comfortable robes hang on the wall and a good personal touch is the wooden step to facilitate bath access. |
Facilities
There's a lot to be found in the space separating the hotel's two wings. For a start, there are two swimming pools, each with a whole different character. Both feature sundecks and plenty of surrounding plants as well as poolside rooms. There is a sandwich bar in the west wing that doubles as an indoor swim-up cocktail bar and a small library with sofa space in one of the corridors as well as a number of sofa spaces to relax in. A small spa caters for guests' needs and offers treatments for couples as well as singles. For those seeking more peace than busy Patong Beach can offer Burasari runs a shuttle service to Paradise Beach; a 20-minute drive away. |
Restaurants
Celebrity chef Keith Floyd visits Burasari several times a year and his Floyd's Brasserie, located in the resort, is the only Floyd outlet under his name, worldwide. The tastefully appointed restaurant is also a popular spot with local expatriates. Special mention should be made of the resort's Sunday brunch also very popular with guests and locals alike. Burasari's breakfast arrangements are exemplary with good attention to detail and a wide scope of choices. A ballad singer entertains guests at adjacent Misty's Bar and during the day when he is not strumming the bar features surprisingly tasteful pre-recorded music. |
Pools
There are two separate swimming pools in each wing. In the west wing there is a central sun lounge area with rooms around the periphery of the pool. The east wing's pool is slightly larger with more of an open feel and some gorgeous flora as well as some outstanding traveller's palms, birds of paradise, potted plants and an ornate waterfall-cum-fountain. What with background music seeping out from the bar and a cocktail by this pool you can have the perfect 4 o'clock holiday moment here. |
Summary
With its unique features and one-off ideas Burasari is an original. It is also located in a convenient spot close to both the beach and Patong's shopping and nightlife. Still, if guests choose to stay within the resort there are plenty of facilities to amuse them. Traditional and modern at the same time, Burasari aims to deliver up-to-date service in the time-honoured Thai way. |
