Krabi Hotel Updates

by Rungtip Hongjakpet Izmen

The province of Krabi, to the east of Phuket, is booming, with many new hotels and resorts being built on the mainland and on nearby islands, and more hotels being upgraded or extended.

Krabi currently has 403 hotels and guesthouses with a total of 15,589 rooms. There is huge variety, ranging form 80-baht-a-night lodgings, mostly in Krabi Town, up to spoil-yourself-to death luxury accommodation at 100,000 baht a night.

With Krabi’s popularity among tourists growing fast, 15 new hotels and resorts are currently under construction.

These include three hotels on Lanta Island: the 78-room Lanta Cliff Beach Resort and Spa, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2008; Le Lanta Resort & Spa with 174 rooms; and the Lanta All Seasons Beach Resort & Spa, due to open soon with 38 rooms, with another 80 to be added later.

Just north of Lanta, on Klang Island, the 29-room Islanda Village Resort just completed the construction and already opened and by 2010, guests should be booking into the 164-room Radisson Resort & Spa on nearby Sriboya Island.

Railay Beach west

A second All Seasons hotel is going up at Ao Nang Beach, a hotspot for new hotels. It will open initially with 54 rooms. Other projects along the beach include the Ao Nang Orchid (52 rooms), the Ao Nang Cliff Beach (146 rooms this year plus 50 in 2009), and the Windahla Ao Nang Resort & Spa with 75 rooms ranging in price from 4,500 baht to 10,000 baht a night.

On Railay Beach, just south of Ao Nang, the Bungah Thani resort will open in September 2008 with 55 rooms.

At Haad Yao Beach, about a third of the way from Krabi Town to Lanta Island, at least three hotels are under construction: the Baan Hadyao Resort, with 42 rooms; the Sea House, with nine villas, due to open in June 2008; and the Co Co Beach Resort, with 12 villas, due to open in November 2008.

Further into the future, Honolulu-based Outrigger Enterprises Group, which is on a drive to establish itself in the Asia-Pacific region, starting with two properties in Phuket, has announced that it is currently looking at potential hotel projects in Krabi.
