Dear Reader,
One of the nicest things about Phuket is that you can plan almost
any kind of holiday here on any sort of budget. But let’s face
it – not many of us have a ‘money-no-problem’ clause
in our holiday planning. Mere mortals like you and I tend to go for
what is affordable and this is our theme this month: Affordable Phuket.
Affordable fun? Great idea! Join us on a James Bond Island and Phang
Nga Bay kayaking tour, a day out to the beautiful Phi

Maitree Narukatpichai is a man with many hats. He is president
of the Phuket Tourist Association (PTA) and a director of the
Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa, which is owned by his
family. Somehow that’s
just not keeping him busy enough, so he is in a process of launching
his latest project, Villa Solitude resort, next to Chalong Bay,
which is schedule to open before the end of this year.

Phang Nga Bay covers an area of 400
square kilometres and is home to some 100 islands, many of which
could be entered for The Guinness Book of Records either for their
beauty or for their freakish shapes. The bizarre, why-doesn’t-it-fall-over
outline of Koh Tapu, next to James Bond Island or Koh Ping Ghan,
has been a major draw ever since it featured in 1974’s Bond
movie, The Man with the Golden Gun in which it was a fiendish ‘solar

The waters surrounding Phi Phi are
the most luscious turquoise imaginable and teem with thousands of
exotically coloured fish. The islands lie 48kms Southeast of Phuket
and this translates as roughly one hour 20 minutes, in ferry-speak.
