Millennium Resort Patong Review
Patong Beach - Phuket
It's not often that you can decide to call it a day after shopping your heart out and be in your hotel room just three minutes later. And how often is it that a vibrant world-renowned nightlife scene is mere minutes away from your hotel? Millennium Resort in Patong boasts these two points and even without them it would still be a great place to stay.
New, modern, clean, state of the art and run professionally with that extra-special Thai hospitality, Millennium is set to make an indelible mark on the hospitality scene in Phuket.
Where Is It?
Millennium has two wings, encompassing Jungceylon – a 200,000sqm shopping centre with over 200 shops and has direct access to it. The hotel is newly constructed and built along clean lines with plenty of open space and daylight. The two wings, Lakeside and Beachside, have 224 and 197 guestrooms respectively. It should be noted that the Beachside wing is not directly on the beach – rather, closer to it than Lakeside. See a location map...
How Many Rooms?
The hotel features 219 Superior rooms, 155 Deluxe, 16 Grand Deluxe, 18 Cabana Pool Access, six Junior (family) Suites and four Executive Suites. The Superior Rooms are 30sqm, Deluxe 32sqm, Grande Deluxe range from 35 to 40sqm while Cabana Rooms are a spacious 40sqm. Junior/Family Suites have 50sqm of room while the Executive Suites boast 65sqm of space.
Room Facilities
All rooms come equipped with a large television and full amenities, toiletries and in-room safety box, robes, slippers and umbrella.
My Cabana Room on the fourth floor of the Lakeside Wing features a sundeck with direct pool access and a private outdoor Jacuzzi, a sun lounger with table and chairs.
The large sliding glass doors have light and heavy curtains. The room itself is served by a king-size bed (the most comfortable I have slept in for a long time) with top-quality cotton covers. To one side is a mini sofa, two bedside cabinets with discreet reading lamps, along with attractive headboard lighting. The room also has a round, glass-topped coffee table with a fabric pouffe to sit on.
Opposite the bed is a large-screen TV (over 30 international channels) with DVD player, plenty of work space and deep drawer storage. Unusually, the sink and toiletries are situated just outside the bathroom by the spacious wardrobe and mini-bar.
This leaves more room in the bathroom for a deep and luxurious bath and a shower cubicle with plenty of maneuvering space. Natural light can penetrate into the bathroom if the louvered blinds are pulled up. On the whole, the lighting arrangement in the Cabana room is intimate, cosy and practical at the same time although it's not immediately clear where the switches are.
The room is extremely private in that no sounds whatsoever penetrate from neighbouring accommodations.
Restaurants and Bars
Millennium has some six food and beverage outlets ranging from lobby snacks to intimate fine dining. The resort's latest innovation, Level Four in the Lakeside wing, is poolside and features al fresco dining with weekly buffets and is perfect for a refreshing change from air conditioning.
On the ground floor Bistro offers a good international menu, all-day a la carte dining and also hosts the breakfast buffet as well as having a comprehensive children's menu. Vegetarians are also well catered for at Millennium.
Over at the Beachside Wing, Straits Dining offers perhaps the widest choice of Asian food in Phuket and breakfast buffet. Bar 8, in the Beachside wing, has an internet package so guests and visitors can buy internet time and snack at the same time.
Business Facilities
The resort has some of the best business resources on the island with five choices of meeting and business rooms.
Expect a well-handled Business Centre with a full gamut of services, including free Wi-Fi in public areas.
Leisure Facilities
Located next to the swimming pool on the resort's fourth floor, Millennium's fully air conditioned Health & Fitness centre features 15 state-of-the-art workout machines, constant professional surveillance, full-length mirrors, parquet flooring, two wide-screen TVs showing sports channels and full air conditioning.
The Escentika Spa, also in the Lakeside wing, has nine treatment rooms with one beauty salon. Parquet floors, discreet lighting arrangements, both ground-level and raised treatment beds, facilities to handle couples, tasteful décor, adequate changing space and electric blankets for body wraps and facial steam facilities are some of the features here.
The Escentika has experienced and qualified therapists and a long list of different types of massage – even a massage for children. A good personal touch is the addition of an iPod in each room so guests can choose their own background music. Exclusively using Pevonia Botanica products, the spa features everything from wraps to scrubs to facials to a five-day-long spa package.
Overall
If you're looking for a well-run, gleaming new resort within easy reach of the best Phuket Island and, more particularly, Patong has to offer, look no more: Millennium fits the bill.
Despite the wings' names it is not beachside but is only a five-minute stroll away from Patong Beach.
Spacious, modern and guest-friendly, Millennium has the feel and efficiency of a city hotel that just happens to be in a seaside resort town.
