Pakasai resort Krabi Review

By Sam Wilkinson - Photos by Stephan Audiger

Pakasai is a split-level resort featuring seven different room types and chalets in Ao Nang, Krabi. The resort has recently undergone an extensive renovation comprising room refurbishment as well as the addition of a new three-storey building above a modern and attractive lobby with plenty of sofa space.

The old lobby is presently a breezy coffee shop and bar as well as relaxation area and stands adjacent to the open-sided restaurant.

New lobby/reception

Where is it?

Pakasai is at the northern end of Ao Nang (in the direction of Nopparat Thara beach) on a road leading uphill out of the resort, conveniently close to Ao Nang's shopping and nightlife scene. See map below...

The resort is located 200 metres from the Ao Nang Beach Road. The higher you go in this hillside resort, the greener and cooler it becomes and chalets on the upper part have good views out over the surrounding countryside and partial sea views.

How many rooms?

Pakasai has 104 rooms with 38 Adora, 31 Deluxe, 20 Superior, two Deluxe Family Rooms, two Pakasai Peak Suites and one Superior Family Room.

Room facilities

Adora room

The 48sqm Adora Room has clean lines, helped along by parquet floors, clever lighting arrangements, a king-size bed with a couch at its foot, large sliding windows leading out to an ample terrace with adjustable rattan blinds for privacy as well as wooden side louvers.

There is also a white soaking tub on the balcony as well as a solid table-and-chairs set. A swivel-based cable and terrestrial TV with DVD player stands over the minibar and fridge.

Behind the bed lies a workspace with drawers and an open bathroom space with non-slip tiles and modernistic digital weighing scales.

Adora bathroom

The shower cubicle shares the same sliding opaque glass door as the toilet and has both rain and normal shower facilities. Ample storage space comes in the shape of a large wardrobe with plenty of open spaces for shoes and suitcases. Lots of free toiletries and extras such as a beach mat in a beach bag are good touches along with expected accessories such as bathrobes and slippers and umbrella as well as a digital safe.

The 52sqm Deluxe Room follows along the same lines as the Adora with polished parquet floors and several extras such as a large-base king-size bed, a corner work space along with a large and breezy balcony with good garden views, a spacious bathroom with a walk in shower. Thai textiles adorn the walls above the bed.

Restaurants and Bars

Cottage Bar

Dalah is a 150-seater, deck-floored, open-sided restaurant at Pakasai. It is pond side and handles buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Adjacent is the Cottage Bar with cocktails, coffee, a rest space and a raft of magazines.

On the second level, drinks and light lunches as well as snacks are served at the pool bar and terrace.

Business facilities

Computers in the old lobby

The 72sqm multipurpose Act Room has garden views and natural light. Functioning as a classroom it can hold 40 delegates; a U-shaped meeting, 21 delegates and as a theatre 65.

There is an LCD projector, a VCD/DVD player, WiFi internet connection, whiteboards, Hi-Fi, TV, podiums and stage as well as a technical assistant.

Leisure facilities

Pool and pool bar

The second-level free form pool features an infinity edge at its west side, affording views out over neighbouring hills and partial sea views. There are 14 double sun-lounger-and-parasol sets with a pool bar and terrace along with a children's section.

The pool never gets too deep and so is safe for elder children. Pakasai also has a medium-sized fitness room as well as mountain bikes for getting around and a charming Adora Spa with a full menu.

The lobby lends out VCD's and has an attractive mini-library.

Overall

New reception

Pakasai has benefited enormously from its renovation and the cleaner and more defined lines of the resort are undeniably attractive and functional.

A lot of its individuality comes from the fact that it is on a hillside and in lush greenery. Another plus point is its handy location, being just a short stroll away from downtown Ao Nang and the longtail boat departure point for neighbouring islands.
