RE KÁ TA Beach Club is currently closed for renovation. It is expected to reopen in October 2017.
RE KÁ TA is a trendy Beach-Club-cum restaurant on Kata Beach with an accent on healthy living. The base for the annual King’s Cup Regatta, it’s easy to see how the place got its clever name. Fresh, preservative-free products are the order of the day at RE KÁ TA and it prides itself on sourcing only the best.
With a modern outlook and a definite accent on all that is trendy, RE KÁ TA is popular with visitors who want to spend time on the beach but who appreciate top-range amenities, bold décor and great food from 09:00 to 24:00, seven days a week.
Where Is It?
RE KÁ TA is located next to Boathouse Resort at the southern end of Kata Beach. If coming from Patong or Karon, take a right at the T-junction at the end of the road in Kata and it is 300 metres down the road on the beach side.
An al-fresco lounge section features faux-water hyacinth sofas and tables with innovative lighting a ‘walk-through’ automatic shower, pastel-coloured parasols and vivid throw cushions.
The restaurant itself is a little more classical with a blue-and-white theme while the beach terrace features white furniture with subdued lighting. It’s all quite impressive and very much feels like a ‘happening’ place and indeed was designed by Fredo Taffin, the same artist who created Ku De Ta, Bali’s famous club/restaurant/beach bar.
The lounge section of RE KÁ TA has piped-in music ranging from light hip-hop to rumba to evergreens. Not intrusive, but nevertheless a definite presence, the sounds are very much part of this area whereas the restaurant and terrace are quieter.
The excellent service here makes the atmosphere touching on luxurious yet the Beach Club theme keeps things relaxed and casual. It’s much easier to meet people here than a ‘normal’ restaurant, which is a good thing.
You’ll find seven white wines here (counting Prosecco and a dessert wine) and seven red labels – all decently priced. Our Chateau de la Negly ‘La Falaise’ Languedoc is a great choice of companion and fairly bursting with flavour.
And in keeping with its Beach Club character, RE KÁ TA has a good choice of trendy tropical and classic cocktails, too. No shortage of mini umbrellas here.
RE KÁ TA adheres to a ‘Living Cuisine’ concept, in that all food is cooked below 42 degrees centigrade and ingredients are as fresh as possible. This is not a unique culinary movement as organic food and restaurants have been around a while but to be in chic, modern surroundings while you eat healthily marries the best of both concepts.
Grilled sea scallops with rum jelly on a bed of diced mango works well, as does an incredibly al dente salmon dish. For mains we sample snow fish in a pastry crust, the salt in the crust complementing the fish admirably, and seared Wagyu beef on vanilla risotto with beef and mushroom jus.
There’s no doubt about it that RE KÁ TA on Kata Beach is on top of its game and is the leader in the leisure/fine-dining sphere in Phuket.
Many of the wait staff members have been working in previous reincarnations of RE KÁ TA for years so expect attentive and professional service.
