2007 - Living Large in Phuket
This month at Phuket.com Magazine, we mine the island for hidden gems of opulence and hit the mother load. We start with the most obvious measure of extravagance the place you rest your head with reviews of the sumptuous Evason Phuket and otherworldly Phuket Pavilions. Then we take on transportation air, land, and sea with an elite island-to-island seaplane service, a yacht cruise, and a look at Phukets luxury car market. But what good is wealth if you dont have someone to share it with? Tie the golden knot with a dreamy island wedding, then indulge in lavish pampering with an ultra-premium, signature treatment from Phukets top spas. A French proverb says its impossible to overdo luxury. But it sure is fun to try. Wishing you champagne dreams, Rungtip Hongjakpet Izmeneditor@phuket.com |

Phuket Pavilions isnt merely recommendable. Its unique approach to ultra-plush accommodation tempts me to call every person I know and suggest they book a room immediately if only to give me an excuse to visit the resort again. We are living in a time of unparalleled global wealth. Whether you are in America, Europe or Asia, luxury brands are the signature of the rich and famous. Luxury is going slow and enjoying the scenery, taking time to bask in the finer aspects of life. Sailboats silently scream luxury. Onboard, time slows down. Life on land is suspended. With no particular place to go and no particular time to be there wherever there turns out to be the sea breeze whisks worries away. Relaxation has never been so, well, relaxing. Read more... |
The problem: You've found the perfect resort. Peaceful and quiet, a soothing spa, deserted sandy beach, beautiful daily sunsets and the pool villa you want is available at the right price. It's even close to some of the best scuba diving sites in Thailand. Perfect all round except for one thing, it's on Koh Lanta and there's no frequent flights to Krabi Airport so the only option is Phuket Airport at least half a day's travelling from the resort which is too much after the long flights.. Divers around the world know Phuket as the place to come in Thailand for world-class diving. Honestly, Phuketand Khao Lak up the coast are the only destinations in Thailand which offer good enough diving to entice people to fly halfway around the world. Were the gateway to the Andaman Sea, home to thousands of kilometres of coral reef, millions of fish, and hundreds of perfect beaches. Read more... |
Everyone likes a bit of a back rub from time to time, or a neck massage. But until youve tried a spa treatment in Thailand you really havent lived. Thais turned the back rub into an art form thousands of years ago, and have been refining it ever since. And in Phuket that refinement is at its zenith. Ever dreamed of spending an entire day being pampered and stroked? Or of being massaged with honey, tea or chocolate? Its all in Phuket. For some of the islands top treatments, read on. 'BYD' could stand for Bring Your Date. Or Breathtaking, Yummy, and Delightful. Though these initialisms are perfectly suitable, it actually stands for Baan Yin Dee - a Patong boutique hotel that might be more famous for its restaurant than its classy accommodation. Sam Wilkinson gives us his take on it, then moves on to a place that doesn't leave you guessing. Flavors Restaurant proves once again that Patong can be sophisticated, with some the best Asian-influenced French cuisine on the island. Read more... |
