Live Music in Patong Beach Nightlife

Patong, being the centre of nightlife on the island and indeed the south of Thailand, is the place to go for live and live-mix DJ music. For a town of this size there are a surprising amount of choices when it comes down to opting for folk, heavy rock, house or hip-hop. Patong Beach Road is a typical beachside esplanade during the day with sun-seekers strolling up and down the road. However the scene changes radically by night when many people dress up and go out to grab some ear candy – otherwise known as live music. 

This is the nucleus of Patong’s nightlife but strangely enough not the best place in town for live music. Still, Scruffy Murphy’s, halfway along the street, shares live guitar and fiddle acts with Molly Malone’s and you won’t find a more genuine British pub atmosphere in Phuket. Several clubs here have live-mix DJ music and they include Seduction, Hollywood and Tiger. At the end of the street where Bangla meets Rat-U-Thit Margarita’s has nightly live music with bands competing with passing traffic and sports on large-screen TVs. 

Rat-U-Thit, nicknamed ‘Patong’s Second Road’, runs parallel to the Beach Road. Across the way from Margarita’s both Tai Pan and Rock City rock hard into the night with Rock City featuring tribute bands of the heavier sort so expect head-banging stuff there while Tai Pan is mellower but only just… Again, opposite Rock City, 2 Black Sheep features live music in a smaller and more intimate venue and atmosphere while down the road, past Holiday Inn and in the Courtyard Marriott, the ubiquitous Hard Rock Café not only has good live music but talent contests and open-mike nights.
