Location & Phuket information
Phuket Island with
its 540 square km is Thailand's largest island. Phuket is located
900 km south of the capitol Bangkok, in the Andaman Sea and connected
to the mainland through the Sarasin bridge.
About
70.000 of its 220,000 inhabitants are living in the capitol Phuket
Town, which is the cultural and business center of the island.
The majority of
the tourism is spread over the beaches of the west coast and a
few beaches in the southeastern part of the island. These white
sandy beaches and turquoise waters have made Phuket very famous
all over the world. The Palm Garden Resort is located in very
quiet Chalong Bay in the south-eastern part of Phuket.
Chalong had the
first boat lagoon & yacht haven on the island and is the main
departure point for many surrounding attractions. Snorkel/dive
trips depart daily from Chalong to Raja Islands, Phi Phi Islands
and other local dive spots.
There are supermarkets,
shops, petrol stations, banks, police stations, post offices,
dive operators, travel agents, bars & restaurants available
close by.
All other
destinations on the island are easily reached by car &
motorbike.
