333 Café Phuket is a funky fusion restaurant on Chao Fah Road in Chalong, which sees authentic Italian cuisine combined with tasty Thai influences to create a unique but exceptional flavour. While being situated a little bit out of the way, the metal A-frame structure is difficult to miss and its fair prices for filling fare is well worth the journey.
Also known as Tong Sam Café (the Thai translation of its name), it was started by Chef Bao and two partners – hence all the threes. A local man, Bao started his cooking career at Capannina Restaurant in Kata Beach before moving to Sri Panwa, where he created the menu for the Baba Pool Club. He brought some of the outstanding dishes he created there to his first solo restaurant, which opened in January 2016.

The menu has the name 333 Café Phuket all over it, with signature dishes in almost every category. The 333 Pasta (250 bath) is heavily inspired by Thai seafood spaghetti; the 333 Salad (250 baht) features grilled salmon and chicken; the sweet 333 cocktail (120 baht) contains rum, peppermint and lychee while the 333 Steak (490 baht) includes duck thigh, saba and pork neck. The 333 Pizza (250 baht) is a real surprise, being divided into three toppings: salami, seafood and Bismark (ham, spinach and egg). An unusual taste exploration, it is freshly prepared in the traditional Italian style in a wood-fired pizza oven.
Some of the Italian dishes feature slight Thai touches, such as the aforementioned signature pasta dish. It features a generous helping of spaghetti with mussels, clams, shrimp and squid, as well as a homemade signature chilli paste which adds a bit of tanginess to the taste without melting your tonsils. The Thai set menu options (all 150 baht) also feature international influences, being served in colour-coded tiffin tins. They include grilled pork and spicy salted egg salad, Thai omelette and tom yum soup or stir-fried pork with Thai chilli paste and clear soup, among others.
The décor of 333 Café Phuket dining room combines touches of soft comfort and modern chic with bare bricks and brushed concrete. You can also dine al fresco, under the trees alongside a small canal. It can be found a short drive south from Wat Chalong, on the left (east) side of the road. There are car and motorbike parking spaces available in front.
