O2 Beach Club is permanently closed.
Perhaps the most ambitious of Phuket’s many Beach Clubs, O2 is a multilevel, modern-looking sprawling beachside party location with the potential to be one of the best in Asia. Unusually for a Phuket beach Club, O2 is located on the island’s east coast close by Chalong Pier and from November to May it enjoys relentless and deliciously cooling northeasterly breezes.
The club is centred around a sizeable swimming pool that flanks a well-stocked bar. Behind the bar is a well-manicured garden featuring a beach volleyball court and play space for younger guests. Beachside, there’s a sunbathing space with wooden sun loungers under the shade of tropical almond and palm trees and over the bar is a breeze-cooled lounge with scattered bean bags and faux-water-hyacinth furniture.
Heading back towards the entrance you’ll come across an upstairs bar and kitchen of approximately 160sqm that can hold up to 400 partygoers when utilizing the balcony and downstairs space, but generally speaking, events go off outside and poolside.
Not to put a fine point on it, O2 is not yet fully constructed and fitted out, but that doesn’t mean you cannot drop by and enjoy one of the many events happening there. When O2 throws a party it throws it in style and it’s certainly no shrinking violet on the island’s party scene.
O2 will be the place to catch international acts previously undreamed of in Phuket. This Beach Club thinks big and doesn’t compromise in its pursuit of unbridled entertainment and pleasure.
On the menu are an assortment of starters such as shrimp or seafood cocktails as well as grilled and barbecued choices, a complete Thai section and a few unusual dishes such as crab meat American fried rice. O2 also does a line in health drinks such as its snappily-named ‘bloody health’ – a brew that contains beetroot, mango and lychee juice while the ‘I am pancake?’ contains milk, coconut milk, ripe banana and maple syrup.
The ‘Classic and Trendy’ section of the drinks list offers old favourites such as margaritas and tequila sunrises. The wine selection is a little more adventurous with house red Sangiovese merlot ‘Primo Amore’ served in regular and large portions.
So far so normal, you’d be tempted to say, but O2 does have singular elements to its make up, not least of which being its location.
You’d have to travel relatively far to find a beach club up to these standards on Phuket’s west coast so the niche market is definitely there for O2 and its ‘secret’ location on Phuket’s quieter eastern side.
