B Cat Café and B Shady Restaurant are the two sides of the same coin. Located on Thepkasattri Road, between Dibuk and Thalang roads in the eastern side of Phuket Old Town, this unique venue blends the Taiwanese origin of the concept of cat cafés (the first one opened in 1998 in Taipei) and the charming vintage spirit of the historical district of Phuket City.
The cat café and the restaurant are set in two different rooms for obvious hygiene reasons. The former is, of course, the centre of attention. There are no less than 21 felines - most of them from rare breeds such as Persian and Siamese - waiting to be cuddled or played with, under pretty strict requirements and regulations. Aiming at attracting families and cat lovers, this cool venue serves drinks and pastries on the cat café side, and a good choice of Thai and western favourites on the restaurant side.

Set in a two-storey Chinese townhouse typical of Phuket Old Town, the café and restaurant harbour a well-thought-out décor: the restaurant is dressed in pastel colours, and features comfortable contemporary seating and marble tables while the cat café shares the same colouring as the restaurant and features cosy colourful sofas, low tables, and a large space used as a cat playground, with stairs and bridges. The cat theme even follows customers to the toilets, which also feature cat-style toilet paper distributors, garbage bins, sinks and taps.
As mentioned above, B Cat Café has firm house rules intended to ensure the well-being of its furry lodgers. Guests must take off their shoes and wash their hands with an alcohol-based gel before they enter kitty kingdom, and then follow simple rules that may seem common sense to most people – do not carry the cats, do not wake them up, do not pat them while they eat, etc.
It is mandatory to take a drink or a cake on the cat café side. The menu features a great selection of coffee, tea, shakes, smoothies and juices, as well as adult beverages such as excellent cocktails (140 - 210 baht) and reasonably-priced local and international beers (from 85 baht for a Leo to 200 baht for a Hoegaarden). The B Cat Café menu also displays photos and names of the kittens living here.
B Shady Restaurant has an interesting menu, featuring a lot of Thai specialities (crab meat with yellow curry at 220 baht, fried-rice seafood at 100 baht, and stir-fried pork with basil leaves at 90 baht, just to name a few) and some western favourites such as spaghetti carbonara at 150 baht, salmon steak at 250 baht, and baked cheese mussels at 150 baht.
B Cat Café and B Shady Restaurant are really cool places to stop by for lunch, dinner or even just a drink while visiting Old Phuket Town. Children especially love to play with the beautiful cats, making this venue a trendy and cosy place to visit.
