THIS RESTAURANT IS NOW CLOSED
Clean, bright, and filled with natural light, Bake / Flame / Pasta Restaurant forms the corner of Bangyai Road and the northward-bound Bypass Road right behind Index. It’s a prime location and very handy for shoppers looking for a cheerful place to grab some lunch or indeed dinner as it’s just a hop, skip and a jump from Central Festival Phuket, Big C and, of course, Index. Passersby will see the three-in-one motif of ‘Bake, Flame, and Pasta’ outside which denotes that this is a unique concept: a three-in-one restaurant.
There’s a classic touch to Bake / Flame / Pasta Restaurant with a huge rectangular rug in its centre, round, marble-topped wooden tables, non-slip tiled flooring, and an open-kitchen to one side, as well as a confectionary-patisserie display at the end of the restaurant. It’s not a big place, and has seating for about 18 at the tables and 20 at surrounding counters by the open kitchen and along the wall.
There are two outside areas with classic iron garden furniture but the truth is that you’d bake out there if you chose to eat al fresco during the day. As it is, the areas are handy for smokers who choose to light up before or after a meal here.
Imagine a spanking-clean café serving up great food ranging from burgers to wraps to doner kebabs to pizzas and pastas, and you’ve just about grasped where Bake / Flame / Pasta Restaurant is coming from. The menu is pretty varied for such a compact place even though it follows the ‘Bake, Flame, and Pasta’ mantra in that freshly baked items, grilled and roasted meats along with a good selection of pastas are listed in the menu.
It’s a far cry from fine dining but that’s fine in its own way as the chefs could not be more concentrated and professional while they handle the midday rush. And yes, Bake Flame Pasta gets busy at midday; it’s packed with local expats enjoying a healthy lunch before heading out back to work at one o’clock.
We sample a chicken doner kebab (210 baht) along with a cheeseburger with cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles served with fries (250 baht) and both dishes are exemplary and as fresh as can be.
Meanwhile, as the place fills up, the thunder of heavy buses rumbling by on the Bypass Road, combined with the chatter of the lunchtime crowd, makes Bake / Flame / Pasta Restaurant somewhat er, challenging to say the least if you’re looking for a quiet chat but this doesn’t seem to have harmed the popularity of the place and you can lunch or dine at leisure here from 10:30 to 22:00 with a great 150-baht breakfast served from 07:00 – 10:30. For extremely fresh fare, coupled with a professional kitchen team, along with tasteful décor, and prompt service, it’s hard to fault Bake / Flame / Pasta Restaurant.
