Blue Beach Club Phuket is a chilled-out pool party venue featuring unique live music and a practically-private beach. Thanks to a somewhat obscure location, it has an air of exclusivity and a peaceful atmosphere which makes it a top place to unwind, while still being conveniently close to Patong Beach.
Opened on New Year’s Eve 2014, the cliff-side location on Tri Trang Beach is already attracting the local expat community looking for somewhere to relax on the beach away from the crowds of the nearby tourist resort. Although it cannot legally be described as “private”, the 30-metre beach is hidden between rocky outcrops at the bottom of a steep cliff, with the only building overlooking it being Blue Beach Club Phuket.
Directly above the beach is the club’s restaurant, serving a wide collection of international snacks and meals at reasonable prices. Above that is the 10-metre pool, which is surrounded by nearly 30 large sunbeds, a large collection of stools looking out over the beach and a handful of tables by the bar, which is under the DJ booth. All of that is directly beneath the 33-room hotel, which the beach club is a part of.
Blue Beach Club Phuket’s resident DJ spins a selection of deep house, jazz, funk and especially chill-out tunes from 13:00. He is joined at 15:00 by a violinist, who plays cool easy-listening songs in a way that only a violinist can while strolling around the pool. This approach to live music gives the club a bohemian and very relaxed vibe.
The bar serves a good selection of classic cocktails, including Margaritas, Mojitos, Long Island Iced Teas and Sex On The Beach, all for 250 baht each. Spirits are mostly 190 baht each, shots are 120 baht and beers are mostly 110 baht, making them amongst the cheapest around Patong. Soft drinks start from 90 baht. Between 17:00 and 19:00 is happy hour, where you can buy one cocktail and get one free or buy two beers and get one free.
The pool is only 1.7 metres at its deepest and has a small section which is ankle-deep for kids and those who forgot their swimming costume. If you forgot your towel, there’s no need to stay out of the pool or the sea – Blue Beach Club Phuket will provide them for free. Entry is also free, as are the big sun beds. Being north-facing and built into a narrow cove, the pool and the beach catch the sun for enough of the day for you to work on your tan or dry off after a dip, but also provides plenty of shade for those who want to chill without worrying about when they last applied sunscreen.
Blue Beach Club Phuket is something of a local secret as there are no road-signs pointing the way. To find it, turn off Thawewong Road onto the access road for Tri Trang Beach Resort. You will need to pass through the resort’s security gate and then continue along the road, right past the hotel. The club is another couple of hundred metres further on, with plenty of parking space outside.
