  • Boat Avenue – Phuket

    Large Shopping Complex in Bangtao

Boat Avenue is a large shopping complex opened in 2012 located right before Tinlay Place and the entrance of Laguna Phuket Resort Complex. Covering an area of 30,000sqm, Boat Avenue features different sections: two luxurious Zcape condominium buildings; a long bar of four-storey buildings hosting stores, offices and restaurants (as of July 2014, many spots are still vacant); a shopping street featuring chic fashion boutiques, clean massage parlours, and beauty salons; Container Mall is an original two-storey shopping mall made of vividly coloured shipping containers; A Villa Market (convenient store); and B-Mall, a shopping mall counting about 20 boutiques.

Built in a contemporary style and offering ample parking spaces, Boat Avenue is an almost unique shopping, dining, residential and office complex in Phuket offering a great alternative to Phuket Town’s and Patong’s shopping malls for people staying in the northwestern part of the island. In addition to its permanent shopping opportunities, a Fun Friday Avenue Weekly Market is held on the car-park area in front of Villa Market from 16:00 to 21:00.

  • Resolutely modern and perfectly in line with present-day suburb western shopping zones, the first section of the complex is named Boat Avenue Shopping Street; it is composed of pretty chic stores such as Mandalay & Casa (women fashion), Kami (art shop), Namaste (massage), Nailed It (manicure and pedicure), Kut It (hairdresser), H2O Sportz (dive centre), Siam Bike Tours (cycling tours and rental) and more. This section also hosts a stylish restaurant/coffee-shop named Waya Café which serves delicious all-day breakfast, Thai and international light lunch at affordable prices in Thai contemporary settings.

The second section of the complex is this quirky Container Mall which features something like a dozen shipping containers boasting variegated colours disposed in a rather haphazard way on top of or next to each others, linked with stairs and bridges. As of July 2014, all of them are not yet occupied, the few that are feature a cool coffee-shop (Your Coffee), a jewellery store (Chonnipa), and a fashion accessories shop (Suksavas Accessories).

Villa Market and B-Mall form a large and solid block at the back of Boat Avenue shopping complex. The supermarket features a large parking lot right in front of its entrance doors used for the Fun Friday Avenue Weekly Market, a cool fair at which visitors can find handcrafted souvenirs and sample local street food. Villa Market is a classic convenient store, and B-Mall is an elegant small shopping mall hosting about 20 shops selling a variety of products and services from fashion articles (Katalina Collection, Azara Boutique, and Bella Closet) to fancy handcrafted jewellery to aromatherapy products to painting (Sense of Art Gallery) to massage and waxing sessions (KT Massage).

Summing up, Boat Avenue is a welcomed addition to Bangtao shopping scene which with this huge complex aiming at local residents and tourists alike offers a new way of shopping in this otherwise tranquil area. More stores and restaurants going to open in a near future (a large Russian fashion outlet and a Chinese restaurant are planned for high-season 2015) at Boat Avenue, giving even more options to the visitors.
