Beach Side Italian Dining in Karon Beach

Ciao Bistro and Coffee Talk are the beachfront dining options from Thavorn Palm Beach Resort in Karon. Opened in March 2014, they are essentially one establishment, but with two very different atmospheres; the first being a large open-sided Italian restaurant while the second is a glass walled air-conditioned coffee shop and internet café.

Ciao Bistro is a spacious venue that can comfortably host up to 80 guests in its rustic Italian-style setting. Dressed in warm yellow and white, with dark grey furnishings made of acrylic water hyacinth, the restaurant remains casual and has all the assets of a cool venue for lunch or dinner while on holiday. The front terrace was already a great sundowner spot before the addition of a cocktails van, with a 19:00 to 21:00 happy hour when you can get free popcorn and drinks starting from just 100 baht.

  • Coffee Talk is a small and cosy coffee-shop set right in front of Ciao Bistro. Designed in a modern style, it is just the right place for guests to check their mails – Ciao and Coffee Talk feature complimentary Wi-Fi connection – while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee, quality espressos, cappuccinos, signature fruit drinks and more. The unobstructed view of the vast Andaman Sea is emphasized through the glass walls of the venue.

The menu at Ciao Bistro has been entirely concocted by a genuine Italian chef, who included various dishes from all over Italy. The excellent antipasto (calamari fritto – deep-fried squid with tartar sauce at 355 baht) is feel-good Italian food at its best, while the range of salads (insalata Ricotta – tomato and Ricotta cheese with basil leaves at 290 baht) and light pastas (different varieties around 290 baht) offer something a little less heavy. The restaurant also makes the bold but believable claim of having “The Best Pizza on Karon Beach” (wood-fired pizza quattro stagioni – four seasons – at 335 baht) as well as substantial main courses like their osso bucco (braised veal shank served with baby potato and sauté vegetables at 1,095 baht) and desserts like their irresistible il pirata tiramisu al café (mascarpone cheese mousse flavoured with espresso and marsala wine at 230 baht).

The drinks list of both venues features a great choice of mocktails, smoothies, iced tea/coffee/chocolate, and cocktails (Chor Muang – tequila, blue & orange Curaçao, fruit juice at 255 baht is especially recommended) and offer a perfect refreshment while watching the sun disappear behind the Andaman Sea on the horizon. The unique afternoon tea (550 baht per set), with its coffee siphon and exotic cakes, is also worth a look. Summing up, Ciao Bistro Italian restaurant and the sleek Coffee Talk are both vibrant beach side family-friendly venues offering an authentic slice of Italy in a sumptuous Phuket setting.
