    Beach Club in Phuket

    0

Dream Beach Club is a stylish, laid-back place to relax and party right on Layan Beach. Part of the world-renowned Dream brand from New York City, it is one of very few clubs in Phuket which is right by the sand and is one of the largest clubs of its kind in the whole of Thailand, featuring two swimming pools, four bars and over 100 comfortable sun loungers.

Replacing the once famous Nikki Beach Club at the very northern extreme of Bangtao Beach, Dream opened in December 2015 after the site had undergone quite significant renovations. While it still targets the party crowd, the atmosphere is much more relaxed. The music selection played by the resident DJ – who is positioned above the swim-up bar in one of the pools – is mostly smooth R&B, jazz and chill-out tracks.

  • There is more to Dream Beach Club’s music than just the DJ, though. The focus is on great live acts, with New York’s queen of house music Barbara Tucker the first to perform and other big names lined up for the future. Dream has an exclusive deal with UK-based house labels Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound, who will both be performing special monthly parties. While the official closing time for the beach club is midnight, a modest upstairs nightclub – PHD (Penthouse Dream) – keeps the party going until at least 02:00.

The beach club boasts 70 regular sun beds, 15 round sofas, 15 square sofas, nine extra-large sofas, six half-round sofas and six elevated cabanas. These are all available on a pricing structure linked to a minimum amount spent on drinks and food, so getting one of the great beach-side cabanas is not just a case of being the first there. The price structure is not fixed and will rise or fall according to the time of year and what events are on, but will generally range around 1,000 – 2,000 baht.

Reaching the minimum spend will not be a challenge with the impressive menu of great international cuisine and signature cocktails. The most notable items on each are the Dream Beach Burger and the Life Is But A Dream cocktail, which cost 30,000 baht and 15,000 baht respectively. The burger is every luxurious food you can think of in a gold leaf encrusted bun, including wagyu beef, black truffle cream and foie gras, as well as bacon, cheddar cheese and more. It is served with a chilled bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne and a voucher for a free night’s stay for two in the Sky Suite of the Dream Phuket Hotel & Spa. The voucher also accompanies the special cocktail.

Less extravagant drink choices at Dream Beach Club include a range of tasty 290 baht signature cocktails like the fruity Layan Sunset (Tres Magueyes tequila, triple sec, ginger syrup, ginger mango chutney and celery bitters) or the quite sharp Dreamosa (Tanqueray gin, orange, Thai basil syrup, lime juice and sparkling wine). You can also get classic cocktails for 270 baht, high-end imported beers for 330 baht, local beers from 130 baht and spirits starting at 240 baht per glass. The food menu features a limited selection of salads, soups, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, sushi, seafood platters, meat courses and Thai food, with prices ranging from 180 to 2,900 baht.

Dream Beach Club is a little out of the way for most of the larger resort destinations (though it is conveniently located for guests of hotels around Bangtao, who will soon be able to enjoy a shuttle bus service) and, at the time of writing, there were no signposts for it, making it possibly a bit tricky to find. Layan Beach Soi 2 is quite a small and nondescript road and it is very easy to drive straight past it without noticing. The trendy and chilled-out venue is absolutely worth the finding, though.
