The Surin Phuket is a long-established stylish resort on Phuket’s west coast. Formerly known as The Chedi until 2012, it is a member of Design Hotels due to its superb Thai contemporary style designed by the famous American architect Ed Tuttle. Nestled on the hillside overlooking the tiny and discreet Pansea Beach, right next to Surin Beach, The Surin is a haven of tranquility and privacy.
From its sumptuous entrance in a lush corridor to its reception and restaurants overlooking the swimming pool and the sea to its hillside cottages and seaside deluxe suites, the resort is like a piece of architectural art made of granite and teak wood in green settings. Listing 10 reasons to stay at The Surin Phuket was not too difficult a task, as you can see below…

Pansea is one of the most appealing beaches of Phuket. Located between Surin and Bangtao beaches, it is not very well-known due to the fact it cannot be accessed other than by passing through The Surin Phuket’s reception. Almost 400m long, Pansea Beach is fringed by coconut tree and lapped by the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, making it a very picturesque strip of white sand.
A wide choice between hillside and beachfront accommodation awaits wannabe guests at The Surin. Hillside Cottages are available with one or two bedrooms under the shade of the canopy; many of them offering sea views. Beach Studio Suites have only one bedroom but are set right on the beach. All room-types are provided with top-notch amenities.
At The Surin Phuket, every meal from breakfast to dinner is taken facing the sea. Lomthalay Restaurant (Thai cuisine), Sunset Café (Italian and international specialities), Beach Restaurant (fresh grilled seafood) and the Beach Bar (international snacks) offer guests succulent outdoor and indoor dining in lovely settings while watching the sun disappear behind the horizon.
The Surin Phuket is just the right place to exchange vows in style on the secluded beachside of the property. Wedding packages are available for both western and Thai ceremonies, with a large choice of special little details: sunset ceremony right on the sand, romantic settings, banquet for up to 100 guests, and more.
The Surin Phuket may be a haven of tranquility on the secluded Pansea Beach, but guests looking for some action at night just need to take a 10-minute stroll on foot (or a 2-minute drive) to reach Surin Beach, the busiest beach in Phuket regarding beachfront dining and entertainment. People looking for even more action at night can reach Patong Beach and its tremendous scene of discotheques and bars in only 20 minutes by car from the resort.
The Surin Phuket has all the facilities and equipment needed for an active vacation. Pansea Beach offers a great range of water sports such as beach volleyball, catamaran sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling, body and paddle boarding, while the resort’s gym has top-notch fitness equipment (and also a great sea view!). Two floodlit tennis courts and the swimming pool are also available. Golfers can easily arrange tee times at one of the five international-standard golf courses of Phuket directly at The Surin.
The Surin Spa is the right place to get soothed, rejuvenated or simply relaxed under the expert hands of skillful therapists specialising in holistic spa treatments. The settings of the Surin Spa are just superb: dressed in white and gray, designed in the same modern style with a Thai twist as the rest of the resort, each spa cottage features two treatment beds and a bathroom. Yoga and meditation classes are also available.
The Surin Phuket has been designed by the world-famous American architect Ed Tuttle, whose design blends heavy materials (wood and stone) with light simple lines, and contemporary style with Thai influences. Ed Tuttle has created a lot of first-rate resorts throughout Asia, including Park Hyatt, Hilton, and Sheraton properties. His style makes The Surin Phuket unique.
The Surin Phuket’s personnel are indeed deserving of the five-star ranking of the property. It may seem like stating the obvious, but the politeness, friendliness and skill in English of the large majority of the staff is second to none and deserves mentioning. It is often the case, in long-established hotels, that guests become like a second family for their staff.
The Surin Phuket is like a botanical park. Perfectly integrated in its environment, the resort is almost invisible from the sea, camouflaged by a lush vegetation. The main difference with other high-end properties’ gardens is that The Surin’s gardening team gives the plants as much freedom to grow as possible to give the garden a genuine natural look.
