    Trendy Beach Club in Kamala

HQ Beach Lounge Phuket is a very chic and stylish beach club at the extreme northern end of Kamala Beach. Modest in size and scope, it is one of the few such places with direct beach access and even a couple of sun mats under the trees, as well as an impressive selection of drinks and classy cuisine in a cool, laid-back setting. It is run by the same team behind the Twinpalms Phuket resort and Palm Seafood in Bangtao Beach, with the same level of luxury evident throughout.

  • Opened in 2016 on the site of the sales office for the Mont Azure condo development, it is in a fairly isolated spot, with the nearest neighbour being the Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach, about 200m further along the beach. The centrepiece is the large smooth marble main bar in the shade of a large sail and surrounded by stools with a rather novel design, featuring a swing-like foot rest. The entire lounge is surrounded by woodland, adding to the sense of privacy and isolation, as well as the available shade.

The choice of drinks available is impressive, including champagne cocktails (370 baht), classic cocktails (from 320 baht), flaming cocktails (from 320 baht), premium spirits (from 320 baht per glass or 3,500 baht per bottle) and both draught and bottled beers (from 220 baht and 150 baht respectively). The back corner of the indoor part of HQ Beach Lounge Phuket has a wine cellar, boasting an impressive selection of old and new world labels (from 1,900 baht per bottle or 290 baht per glass) and champagnes (1,290 baht per bottle or 290 baht per glass). You can even enjoy a fine single malt and a Cuban cigar (from 430 baht and 450 baht respectively).

The food menu is presented in pictorial form on an iPad, but is rather more modest. It features some eclectic options, such as smoked salmon scrambled eggs (290 baht), seabass carpaccio (290 baht) and codfish yellow curry (490 baht). The Japanese-style poached eggs are particularly impressive, being served with teriyaki sauce, French beans, rocket salad, baby spinach and buckwheat grain (270 baht), making it a remarkable mix of tastes and textures. After you are finished, you are presented with toothpicks and a cooling cloth, which is a pleasant touch for a hot day.

You can relax on cabanas, sofas, seats, stools or the mats by the beach in the upmarket atmosphere while enjoying the chillout music played by the live DJ every day from about 18:00. Some of these seating options come at a price, with the cabanas costing 7,500 baht for the day (with a free bottle of Moët Ice Champagne) while the beach mats are 400 baht per day.
