Iguana Beach Day & Sunset Bar is a cool, chilled-out venue located on a tiny exclusive beach located between Kalim and Kamala Beaches. The bar/restaurant is named after an iguana-shaped rock that the three owners of the place spotted while sunbathing there one day. The place is beautiful: it’s a 20m-long beach, flanked by granite boulders with views out to the Andaman Sea, and to the right, the southern tip of Patong Bay.
The parking lot can only fit up to four cars. Situated at the end of a steep road, it overlooks the two small buildings that make up Iguana Beach Bar: the bar and bamboo-table dining area are separate while in front of the two buildings, one metre above the sand, large leather-like cushions and small tables are set up. There are also two additional tables installed on small terraces built in the rocks overlooking the sea.
You’ll hear soft R&B during the day here, which emphasizes the serenity of the place and you can enjoy sunbathing on the sun-beds or indulge yourself in a Thai massage (60 minutes 500 baht). There’s even some snorkeling equipment available for you to discover the colourful marine life along the rocky shore.
But at sundown between 18:00 and 19:00 the atmosphere totally changes at Iguana Beach Bar. On certain days, the colours of the sky are outstanding with a fading mix of pink, violet and blue – the best natural show ever. The music beats accelerate slightly as the evening arrives, making Iguana Beach the perfect place for partygoers. Twice a month, special parties with DJs rock the place until late.
Food-wise, Iguana Beach Bar is more a joint at which to enjoy snacks with a drink than a bone fide restaurant. Figuring on the short menu are spring rolls (120 baht), chicken rolls (120 baht), French fries (90 baht), shrimp wonton soup (150 baht), crab/shrimp fried rice (150 baht) and spaghetti carbonara (170 baht).
The beverage list features two Iguana signature drinks: ‘honey hip’ (honey and lime without alcohol – 150 baht) and ‘honey deep’ (vodka, honey and lime – 200 baht), Thai & International beers (100 and 120 baht), red and white wine (180 baht per glass), spirits (170 baht) and half a dozen cocktails (190 baht) are also in the list with soft drinks, Red Bull, and even champagne! (Moët & Chandon 5,500 baht).
As a conclusion, we could say that Iguana Beach Bar is a cool and intimate venue worth a visit due to its out-of-the-way location and tranquility. If you come to Phuket with a group of friends, it’s a perfect place to enjoy a late afternoon in good company.
