KidzSole Flying Trapeze is an exciting activity by the beach in Mai Khao, where you can experience the thrill of flying in a safe and simple way. A smaller version of the famous circus apparatus, the trapeze has a horizontal pole, suspended from two lines, free to swing back and forth with the visitor hanging from it. Needing only a few minutes of very basic instruction, you can go from the ground to swinging around at high speed in next to no time at all.
Located in the grounds of the Micky Monkey Beach Hotel, which is right on (and roughly at the mid-point of) Mai Khao Beach, KidzSole also has a 40-piece obstacle course, featuring trampolines, vaulting horses, stilts, human hamster balls, tightropes and trapeze stations. Named ‘Circus Ninja Warrior’, it is based on the US TV show American Ninja Warrior.
Despite the name of KidzSole Flying Trapeze, it is not just for children. Aside from being suitable for all ages, they can even accommodate those with disabilities. A large and very soft mat is under the swinging area and a safety harness attached to a pulley system - which is personally operated by owner and operator RP (Ron Pascoe) - prevents you from missing the mat.
RP has many years of experience working with the trapeze and with children, plus he can teach in a surprising range of languages, including English, French, Spanish and Thai. The team of skilled instructors guide the new flyers from the basics of just getting hold of the bar and swinging around a bit (itself a challenge of overcoming fear and trepidation), to swinging upside-down from the bar, to catching the arms of someone hanging from the gantry.
An hour on the KidzSole Flying Trapeze costs just 1,100 baht. The Circus Ninja Warrior course is 990 baht per hour and a combo package including both – totally two hours – costs 1,720 baht. The trapeze facilities are set up right on the beach, in the shade of the tall trees which separate the hotel grounds from the sand and sea, providing a cool space for both activity and relaxing while enjoying the view – particularly the sunset. There is a bar and restaurant on-site for refreshments.
Actually finding KidzSole Flying Trapeze can be tricky, not least because Google Maps are a little inaccurate with the layout of the roads in the area. If you head for Turtle Village Shopping Centre, there are signs pointing the way from there, but it’s just a case of following the road along the coast.
