  • On Top Day & Night Beach Club - Phuket

Rooftop Pool Club in Patong Beach

On Top Day & Night Beach Club is a funky rooftop, poolside party place on the top of the dusitD2 Phuket Resort on Ruamjai Road. With tasty snacks, an impressive range of ingenious signature cocktails and even a resident mermaid, what it lacks in actual proximity to the beach, it more than makes up for in other ways.

The name of On Top Day & Night Beach Club is, for the most part, very accurate. The beach is at least visible from the seventh floor, but the view is mostly obscured by surrounding buildings and the palm trees which line the promenade. However, you certainly can’t deny that it is ‘on top’ – it is one of the highest rooftop bars in Patong – and it is open day and night, with a very different vibe from one to the other.

  • Riding the dedicated lift from the entrance to the right of The Drunken Leprechaun deposits you in an entrance area between the three main zones you can choose from. Straight ahead, you’ll find the funky bar, which has a retractable roof and glass railings to make the most of the view. You will find super-friendly staff here, who will be delighted to serve you a wide variety of beverages, including beers (140 baht), wines (starting at 210 baht per glass), soft drinks (100 baht), juices (100 baht), liqueurs (240 baht), shots (200 baht), spirits (starting from 230 baht per glass) and cocktails (155 – 525 baht).

A good place to enjoy the cocktails list is by the pool, which is reached up the stairs next to the lifts. With plenty of sun loungers around the party-style pool (never much more than about waist-deep), it is generally much busier during the day than at night, but is still a good spot for sipping on On Top Day & Night Beach Club’s signature sweet Cookies & Cream shake (Oreos, chocolate, whipped cream and vodka – 290 baht), fruity Eclectic Blue (gin, elderflower and blueberry (250 baht) or tangy Pearl of Mermaid (Chalong Bay rum, passionfruit tapioca and melon liqueur – 345 baht).

Turning right from the entrance will take you to a long, grassy, open party area lined with palm trees and flaming torches (at night, at least). Here you’ll find the DJ’s hut, a line of cabanas, show dancers, sun loungers and tables. This is a good place to enjoy the sun or the cool night air and to try the high-quality snacks and food while listening to the nu-jazz, funk and house music from local and international DJs.

The food menu is as fun and varied as the cocktails list, and just as peppered with signature choices unique to On Top Day & Night Beach Club. The On Top Sliders, featuring three baby burgers containing wagyu beef, kurobuta pork and chicken topped with Swiss cheese and salad (350 baht) are particularly tasty. You can also try the pick-and-mix sushi (from 160 baht), the Aphrodisiac Salad (containing chicken, mango, sunflower seeds, frisée and rocket leaves, lemon vinaigrette and cucumber hearts for 340 baht) and a modern twist on the traditional Thai Khanom Pang Na (280 baht).

The venue really stands out as a unique concept for Patong and it even earns its name as a beach club in the similarities you could draw to other similar venues around Phuket. Just like Bimi Beach Club on Surin Beach, the DJs tunes are accompanied by live musicians playing saxophone or drums while it follows Xana Beach Club’s lead with regular special parties, as well as a different theme for each night of the week. The friendly (and even family-friendly) atmosphere, created by the excellent staff, is a big part of what makes On Top Day & Night Beach Club really stand out.
