Phuket Games Zone is the perfect place for families, groups of friends or individuals to spend an exhilarating moment of fun activities in Phuket. Located off Soi Palai in Chalong area, this venture centre features three unusual and quirky activities that have gained more and more popularity in the recent years: football-golf, Frisbee-golf, and body-zorbing.
Set in a tranquil area on a large grassy land-plot, Phuket Games Zone hosts a comfortable clubhouse with an open-air yet shaded seating area at which players can rest while enjoying a drink and snacks between two games, or entertain themselves (for free) in other recreation games such as power kite flying, pétanque bowls, crossbow shooting, and darts. The clubhouse doesn’t host a restaurant but reputed seafood eating houses are located a stroll away from Phuket Games Zone.
Phuket Games Zone’s prime activity is its 18-hole football-golf course is the largest course in Phuket; the course is a par 71, with an original 18th hole that challenges players to score a basket! From 25m to 104m length, the 18 holes are played in about one hour and thirty minutes on average, and the game is open to anyone, including children and women (whose often play better than the men!); football-golf is indeed a great outdoor activity for the whole family.
Body-zorbing is a different kind of fun game: participants have to half-climb into a 1.5m inflatable ball leaving only their legs outside (their body is protected by the zorb from head to buttock); the game has similar rules to Sumo: the goal is to push your opponent out from a circle or make it fall down to the ground. Body-zorbing also allows people to safely practice somersault; it’s an exhilarating activity for little ones and adults alike.
Frisbee-golf (a.k.a. Disc-Golf) is a brand-new hooking activity in Phuket that can be only practiced, as for today (June 2014) at Phuket Game Zone. The nine-hole course goes through a nicely landscaped terrain featuring a few trees to add up to the difficulty; the ‘holes’ are in fact chain-baskets set on metallic poles standing at a 1,6m-height; three types of discs are available according to the type of throw required along the game: ‘driver’ and ‘mid-range’ discs have sharp edges so can fly long and mid-range distances; a ‘putter’ is very similar to a standard Frisbee flies slowly and is very accurate on short distances.
Three types of frisbee-golf game can be played at Phuket Game Zone: standard course according to a par; ‘blindfolded pairs’ – the disc-thrower is blindfolded and his partner rattles the chains of the basket to indicate the location to aim at; ‘the five-minute frisbee eat’ – as a standard frisbee-golf course takes between 30 and 45 minutes, the goal of this game is to complete the course in less than five minutes: it is challenging yet possible for fittest people.
