Rockin' Angels Blues Café in Phuket Town is the place to go if you are a music lover. But not any type of music, though: one born in America's Deep South around the end of 19th century - the Blues. The décor and ambiance of Rockin' Angels café reflects an American influence with red brick walls, music posters, old records, dim lights, fluorescent beer signs, you could be in any bar in Chicago or New Orleans. It's a kind of 'home away from home' feeling.

Rockin' Angels Blues Café in Phuket is unusual in that it is the only bar dedicated to Blues music which offers the opportunity to its customers to join and jam with the band. Several guitars hang on the walls around the mini-stage, just waiting for musicians to come and play, whatever their level of musical skill: the official band is extremely adaptable to different styles.
Patrick Chua, the owner of Rockin' Angels, is a native of Singapore. During his childhood he started to learn music (bugle, trumpet and later on trombone and guitar) and in the late seventies, while in the Republic Of Singapore Air Force, life in the barracks was not exactly exhilarating so, with a few of his brothers in arms, founded the first ever Blues band in Singapore. Nevertheless, after becoming a professional musician and touring Asia until the mid-eighties, his career turned to other topics due to the evolution of the Singapore musical scene: the times they were a-changing...
He arrived in Phuket in 2000 on a sailing boat, and was operating Rockin' Angels Sportfishing & Adventure Charter. In 2002, music came back in his life when he opened the first Rockin' Angels bar in Haad Yai. Two years later he moved to and settled in Phuket, bringing Blues and the jamming spirit to the island's capital: Phuket Town.
Rockin' Angels main band is composed of Patrick Chua - guitar/vocals, Teddy Fagerstrom - bass (also owner of Rider Café, diagonally opposed to Rockin's Angels) and different drummers - according to their schedule. The music starts every night at 21:00 and lasts until midnight. Classic Blues standards are played with brio by the band and the addition of some of the patrons' musical skills bring performances to new heights. The groove is on, and you can't resist tapping your foot to the rhythm.
Rockin' Angels first task is to quench the thirst of its customers, so you'll find all types of drinks here. If you are hungry, Rider Café's menu is available, and a link by walkie-talkie between the two venues allows customers to get a hamburger or fried-rice while listening to the band. Note that smoking is not allowed inside, but smokers can enjoy a puff at one of the two tables on the pavement in front of the bar (the music is loud enough to be heard from outside).
