Friendly Jazzy Lounge Bar in Phuket Town

    0

The Route Café & Music Bar in Phuket Town (formerly Route 68) is the revamped, relocated version of the ultra-cool and much-loved Route 68 Bar which used to be housed at 68 Thalang Road (hence its name). Just like a phoenix, the vintage-style Route 68 has been reborn from its own ashes to become The Route, a well-thought-out, contemporary lounge/bar set right opposite Phuket Trickeye Museum on Phang Nga Road in Phuket Town. With soft live jazz music, a modern and comfortable setting, and views out along Phang Nga Road, hanging out at The Route - Phuket is a bit like heading back home and meeting up with old friends.

Run by two friendly and charming personalities, Khun Jah and Khun Kit, The Route offers a genuine feeling of friendship and often draws in a rather fashion-conscious crowd. As both of the managers are music lovers, you can enjoy live music every weekend: pop, soft rock, jazz, all cool styles of music are played here, and any musician is welcome to jam later on at night.

  • The Route is not a restaurant, although some Thai and western snacks can be ordered from neighbouring eateries.

The drinks list includes seven types of beers, including the locally brewed Phuket Lager, six variations of cocktails and the usual soft drinks, spirits and coffee/tea. Prices are reasonable, and cocktails are potent enough to elevate guests’ spirit to party mood. For those who hit the sauce too hard it’s good to know that The Route can also offer accommodation upstairs.

Every weekend The Route has live performances from local musicians. On Fridays: Jason Wilder and his expat band rock the place. Jason is a radio DJ at Phuket Live 89.5. They play Rock and Blues classics.

On Saturdays: Denis (guitar) and his wife Arvie (singer) take the stage. This lovely and very talented Filipino couple plays pop and soft rock covers.

On Sundays: Mari Okawa and Jeffrey Sevilla take the stage and offer a relaxing time with their fine soft Jazz. Both of them are long-term Phuket residents, and Jeffrey also runs ‘Music Matter’ - a live jazz venue located not far from Robinson department store in Phuket Town.

At the end of each evening, musicians in the audience or from other live music venues in Phuket join the bands and jam. There’s a real feeling of fun and friendship at The Route - Phuket, and it’s definitely a great place to visit with friends to party in good company until late.
