Bangla Road Side Street in Patong Beach0
Soi Viking is a dark and surprisingly quiet soi off the southern side of Phuket’s party capital – Bangla Road in Patong. The main attraction of the street is a small selection of guesthouses and hotels which are extremely convenient for those visiting Patong with the intention of partying hard.
Soi Viking was named after the Viking Restaurant and Bar, which has long-since closed and been completely replaced. It is sometimes known as “Soi Absolute”, after what is now the most notable place on the 80-metre soi – Absolute Bangla Suites, which is found right at the very end. Rico’s Hotel is just next door and The Dutch Inn guesthouse is about half-way up the street.

Even in the evenings, Soi Viking remains one of the quieter streets to come off the lively Soi Bangla. The entrance is the busiest part, with the New York Live Music Bar on one side and Margarita Bar on the other, where the popular attraction is the ‘test your strength challenge’. Hang by your arms from a metal beam for as long as you can and you could win some free drinks!
The Grabbarna Grus Nightclub can be found a little way along the street, with a popular shisha bar opposite it. At the bottom of the street, opposite Rico’s Hotel, is a back entrance to the Tiger Bar complex, allowing guests of the hotels at the end of Soi Viking to get directly into the pool hall area of the complex without going all the way down the street and then back up through the bars. You could also use it as a shortcut to Patong Promenade. It is difficult to miss, with the same ostentatious tiger motif as Tiger Bar.
There is a small collection of shops along the street, including a couple of tailor’s shops, a massage parlour and a tattoo parlour. An artist regularly sets up his easel about 10 metres in from the entrance of the soi for doing portraits of passers-by.
