Five-Star Hotel Restaurant in Kamala Beach0
Sunset Grill Restaurant’s name tells you pretty much all you need to know about this excellent hillside restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort. The open-sided eatery serves up high-quality grilled dishes with a stunning backdrop of the sun sinking into to Andaman Sea, all in a chic and romantic setting.
One of the three dining options at the five-star resort located on the coast road just to the south of Kamala, Sunset Grill is a little bit tricky to reach. It is right at the back of the resort, hard against the sheer hillside. This gives it the advantage of an exceptional elevated viewpoint over the whole resort and out to sea, but at the cost of a long journey from the entrance gates to reach it. Fortunately, a shuttle service is available to take you up the hill, saving you a long walk up a winding road!

The long journey up the hill is absolutely worth the effort, though, as you are immediately greeted by welcoming staff and two fantastic sights –the seascape panorama to your right and the open kitchen to the left, with Italian Head Chef Alessandro Martinelli and his team hard at work. They are preparing a great selection of mostly international dishes, using a combination of market-fresh locally-sourced seafood, meat and vegetables as well as top-shelf imported produce.
Highlights from the admittedly quite short menu at Sunset Grill Restaurant include freshly-shucked imported oysters (600 baht for 6), grilled squid with ginger and garlic confit (270 baht) and soft shell crab salad with tangerine and sweet tamarind dressing (370 baht) – and that’s just for appetizers! Top choices from the main courses include the barbecued whole fish of the day with lemongrass and kaffir lime (1,200 baht per kilogram), grilled Boston lobster (1,700 baht) and king prawns flambéed with Chalong Bay Rum, garlic and parsley (200 baht per prawn).
Being the restaurant of a five-star hotel, Sunset Grill Restaurant delivers the top-quality product and service you would expect of such a place, albeit at the expense you would also expect. It is primarily an evening dining option, with the addition of an extensive wine and cocktails selection (as well as freshly-squeezed juices) creating one of the more romantic restaurants along Phuket’s west coast. However, they also do a family-friendly Sunday brunch
