Viewed from outside, Urban Food looks modern and clean with a fan-cooled, 10-table terrace. Inside, the restaurant has Mediterranean touches with the use of warm colours – orange bricks and dark wood with barrels and blackboards announcing dishes – this all lends rural-like feeling, almost like an ultra-modern Provençal farm.
There are 16 tables inside while the back of the room is occupied by the open kitchen and a salad bar. All in all, Urban Food can comfortably seat up to 70 diners. The terrace is a great place to be at happy hour; from 17:00 until 19:00, punch, sangria, and cocktails are at special prices (90 baht and 150 baht), and you’ll get two glasses of beer or wine for the price of one.
Urban Food menu is impressive in its size. It’s made up of 22 pages in which you can find dishes from no less than nine countries: France, Ireland, Japan, China, Thailand, Italy, USA, England, and Norway. Two chefs run the kitchen, French and Thai, they both have a great experience in cooking and know well the importance of homemade cuisine; for instance, most of the sauces and desserts are homemade.
Here, you’ll find salads, pastas, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, fried noodles, fish, cold cuts, steaks, cocottes and stews, desserts and ice-cream, and in case you would like something not featured on the menu, the chefs will do their best to make it, depending on the ingredients available in the kitchen.
As for beverage, there is also a wide choice of wines – 15 Old and New World labels, white, red, rosé and sparkling; beers – including five Belgian beers; smoothies and milkshakes; cocktails, spirits and liquors, and three types of Irish coffee; standard (with Irish whiskey), French coffee (with cognac) and Russian coffee (with vodka). All the usual cold soft drinks and hot beverages are available as well.
Summing up, Urban Food restaurant is an attractive venue with relatively fair prices – wines are all between 750 and 1,890 baht a bottle (prices April 2013). The restaurant is large, well cooled and very family-friendly. It offers an attractive venue for shoppers who want to take a break during their exploration of Central Festival Phuket or before/after watching a movie at SFX Coliseum theatre.
Modern, comfortable and unpretentious, it is also a good place for staff parties and business meetings; just contact the management to get special events organized smoothly with them.
