The Xana Beach Club Sunday Fun Brunch is very much true to its name, providing an enjoyable pool party atmosphere and a great selection of high quality cuisine…on Sunday. It has a street market style of set-up, with offerings from around the world. This gives you the convenience of a buffet, but with every dish freshly prepared before your eyes.
The buffet brunch is laid out geographically, with colourful signposts showing where each option comes from, including France, Italy, India, USA, Australia, Japan and, naturally, Thailand. Each station has a modest range of popular national dishes on offer, such as cold cuts and pastas from Italy, burgers and chicken wings from America, sushi from Japan and barbecued meat and seafood from Australia.
The really remarkable part of the Xana Beach Club Sunday Fun Brunch is the amazingly high quality of the ingredients used. We started with a salad, featuring fresh and crunchy leaves and cheese straight from the wheel. We then had a juicy and tender kebab (which, for some reason, is listed as Indian food), followed by piping hot Tom Yum Goong. The soup was perhaps not as spicy as it traditionally should be but, being custom-made from scratch for each serving, you can ask for it to be exactly as spicy you please.
The burger we had next was built around a very large and juicy patty and was contained in a soft, fresh bun. Similarly, the seafood barbecue included large and meaty river prawns, sizable mussels and even Phuket lobsters. There was also a meat barbecue, featuring steaks, sausages, various flavours of satay, roasted meats and a spit-roasted pig.
If you like your desserts, you will certainly enjoy the Xana Beach Club Sunday Fun Brunch. The options include a large selection of cakes and treats, chocolate fondue, pancakes, fresh fruits and gelato. The Thai offerings really stand out, however. The Chatuchak-style coconut ice cream is served in a fresh young coconut and is particularly nice with sticky rice and nuts added. However, that is nothing compared to the banana roti, prepared by a beach vendor specially contracted by the beach club.
Aside from the usual beach club atmosphere the place already enjoys, the Sunday Fun Brunch brings a few additional elements to help it live up to its name. A family-friendly event, you will find a kids corner, with toys, games and balloon animals. Grown-ups will enjoy the massage corner, as well as the live smooth jazz played by a wandering saxophonist. They will also appreciate the fact that kids under the age of four dine for free, while those aged 6-12 get in for half the usual price.
Only available in the high season, the standard Xana Beach Club Sunday Fun Brunch costs 1,650++ baht. If you add free-flow beers, wines and cocktails, the price becomes 2,450++ baht per person, which is still one of the more reasonably priced Sunday dining options on Phuket, particularly given the remarkable quality of the dishes available. Certainly, few other brunches offer the same great family-friendly party atmosphere.
