The best shopping opportunities in Kamala Beach resides in the genuine local markets help three times per week in this charming fisherman village which went through a rather drastic development since the eighties, following the ever growing touristic success of Phuket Island’s west coast. Kamala changed (and is still changing) a lot during this period but somehow could retains a good part of its original spirit.

Kamala Friday Night Market is the equivalent of Phuket Weekend Market or Phuket Walking Street (both in Phuket Town) at Kamala’s scale. This market is also known as Fantasea Market due to its location right opposite the famous Fantasea Phuket entertainment complex.

Kamala Friday Night Market has gained a lot in popularity since its creation, its size seems to expand week after week; the goods sold here are the usual suspects: clothing, fashion accessories (bags, hats, scarves), electronic or mechanical gadgets and toys, and so on. As usual, the most interesting side of the market is its food section which offers visitors to sample an incredible choice of delicious local products and ready-made snacks: from tropical fruits to pancakes to satay (meat skewers with local sauce) to sushi, you will surely enjoy the visit of this lively local market.

Kamala Beach Plaza is a recent addition to Kamala Beach shopping scene: this small plaza is made of two rows of stalls/shops set in a one-storey building located between Rim Hat Road and the beach, right next to Charoen Seafood Restaurant.

Amongst the shops/stalls hosted in Kamala Beach Plaza, visitors can find an interesting choice of beach wear, clothing, accessories, Thailand and Phuket gifts and souvenirs, as well as a small supermarket (mini-mart). Its central location and its entrance doors on both, beach and road sides makes it a convenient shopping place.

Kamala Walk Way
Kamala Walk Way

Kamala Walk Way (a.k.a. Foxtail Plaza Walk Way) is a small arcade located off Rim Hat Road in the centre of Kamala Village a mere 150m from the beach. The plaza houses a dozen of small stores such as massage parlours (Authentic Thai Massage, Just Relax Massage, and more), art galleries (oil painting custom-order available), one tattoo studio (Black Hawk Tattoo), and Jaspal Tailor.

Kamala Walk Way also hosts restaurants and coffee-shops – The Steakhouse Kamala, La Carbonara, The Café by Zen, and Thai Sugar Hut (Thai & international restaurant & wine cellar); the walk way is agreeable and nicely organised, with tropical plants and trees on both side, and well-thought out lighting, a cool place indeed for a walk at the end of afternoon.

Kamala Village Market
Kamala Village Market

Kamala Village Market is held twice a week – Wednesday and Saturday – along the main road 100m on the right after the southern entrance of Kamala. It is a colourful and lively fresh market that can give visitors a glimpse of southern Thailand daily-life and the occasion to discover a great choice of local products.

Vegetable, fruits, spices, meat and fish are the main articles for sale at Kamala Village Market, but shoppers could also find clothing and useful accessories, as well as a wide selection of ready-made snacks and food to sample onsite. Starting at the end of afternoon, it is a cool place to wander around when things cooled down a bit.

Big C
Big C

Big C is the first and only ‘large’ (at Kamala’s scale) supermarket available in Kamala Beach (there are a bunch of 7-Eleven, Family Marts, and other mom-and-pop grocery stores all around the village though). Opened since 2012 and located on the left-hand side of the main road shortly after the southern entrance of Kamala, Big C conveniently combines grocery store and mini mall articles.

Food, drink, clothing, optical, sun glasses, accessories, tools, you could find almost anything here at reasonable prices. Please remember that the Thai law only authorises stores to sell alcohol between 11:00 – 14:00 and 17:00 – 24:00.
