  • Top 10 Restaurants in Karon Beach

Best Places to Eat in Karon Beach

Karon is a family destination: Here, you’ll find a good choice of large-ish eateries geared towards groups and families in both open-air and indoors arrangements. From the discreet service and lighting of El Gaucho to the full-on frenetic serving in Red Onion there’s a lot of variety and the chance to dine out in a different restaurant throughout the length of your vacation.

And yes, seafood figures highly on many a Karon restaurant’s menu but you’re just as likely to order a juicy steak or pasta in an Italian restaurant – and many Karon eateries serve a veritable kaleidoscope of dishes under one roof.

On the Rock Marina Phuket Resort

This restaurant is at the end of a rocky promontory in the grounds of the incredibly verdant Marina Phuket Resort right by the sea. Sounds romantic? It is. With good service and a predominantly seafood menu, as well as a broad wine list, On the Rock is an attractive alternative to, well just about anywhere in Kata or Karon.

Some dishes, such as the clay pots with seafood in them, are well worth trying out. It is advisable to reserve a table beforehand and if possible to get there for sunset as the colours here are to be seen to be believed. Read More...

2gether Restaurant & Bar is one of the most popular diners in Karon Beach on Phuket Island’s west coast. Established in 2005 and under Swedish management, the restaurant has been rewarded by Trip Advisor as the ‘Best Karon Beach restaurant in 2012 and 2013’. Located on Patak Road, at the intersection with Lung Pho Chuan Road 2Gether is some 350m from the beach.

The menu is in Swedish and English, and presents a perfect selection for international travelers, with choice dishes from Sweden (the obvious meatballs), Italy (pizza, pasta), French (Chateaubriand Provençal), Australian (beef), and of course Thai choices. Read More...

Bai Toey Old Phuket Karon Beach Resort
    Bai Toey

Bai Toey is located in The Old Phuket Karon Beach Resort in central Karon. This pleasant restaurant is decked out with period fittings and serves up predominantly traditional Thai dishes such as phad thai, deep-fried fish with garlic and pepper, tom yam goong, green curry, and much more.

Atmosphere-wise, Bai Toey has tasteful soul music discreetly piped in and its décor complements the dishes in that it is predominantly Thai, although diners can order western dishes such as pepper steak. Bai Toey also offers reasonably priced set menus. Sign your name and write a short review on the wall before leaving.

    Karon Café Pacific Club
    Karon Café

Opened way back in 1989, the main features here at this long-established Karon restaurant are the juicy steaks; flown in unfrozen from Australia and prepared to perfection under the supervision of American owner ‘Uncle’ Eric. Karon Café's steaks are a delight, especially when paired with the complimentary soup and salad bar and a smooth and robust Australian red wine – Karon Café has a small but competent wine selection.

A sister restaurant to the Dining Room in Pacific Club and Margaritas just down the road, Karon Café is also popular with local expatriates, which can only be a good sign.

    Ging Restaurant
    Ging Restaurant

A very popular Thai restaurant amongst visitors staying around Soi Old Phuket Resort area, Ging keeps things simple and delivers good Thai food with all the old favourites on the menu. An outstanding positive point of this simply designed restaurant is its service: Friendly, warm, and with lots of initiative, the wait staff and management at Ging go the extra mile.

Fan-cooled, Ging is open sided with tiled interiors and a décor that won’t exactly remind diners of a five-star, award-winning, world-class restaurant but the important thing is that the food is reasonably priced with generous portions and the service remarkable.

    Mama Restaurant
    Mama Restaurant

Mama Restaurant is located along Karon’s Beach Road and is just perfect for sundowners, sunset watching and enjoying cooling sea breezes during your meal.

Serving a great variety of freshly caught seafood, along with western favourites, cooling cocktails (try the Long Island ice tea), juices, and beers, Mama Restaurant has a European feel to it although the wait staff could maybe do better with their English-language skills. But the best thing about Mama Restaurant is their prices – cocktails are just 90 baht and a whole meal for two is only a fraction above the rice of a street-bought meal.

    Two Chefs (Karon)
    Two Chefs (Karon)

Part of a four-restaurant chain based in Kata, Karon, and Kamala, Two Chefs, located in Soi Centara, is a good family restaurant that can be depended on for quality and quick service (some of the dishes are pre-prepared to handle peak hours). The Two Chefs group has long established a good reputation and is the restaurant of choice for the many Scandinavians who come yearly to Karon Beach.

With a large photograph menu in ten languages and enthusiastic staff members as well as live music nightly, this restaurant may not break originality banners nor win awards for fine dining but it delivers delicious comfort food at reasonable tourist prices.

    Red Onion
    Red Onion

One of Karon’s busiest and most popular restaurants, Red Onion has been a favourite for over 10 years and is packed on a nightly basis. Sure, its décor, seating, and setup is basic and sure, the wait service can be a little undiplomatic but the food is great and that’s what counts. If you’re willing to queue (and you’ll have to past 18:00) and be part of a somewhat machine-like process of sitting, eating, and leaving pronto, you’ll get to enjoy some of the best and cheapest Thai food in Karon.

    Butterfly Bistro

Butterfly Bistro has an easy-going atmosphere and the Thai set menus here make it easier for non-Thais, especially first-time visitors, to order food without hassle or misunderstanding. It’s an attractive yet simple looking place to enjoy a good variety of dishes including steak, seafood, and a special Danish menu (Butterfly Bistro is Danish owned). A kids’ menu is also available.
