Acqua Restaurant is located at Kalim Beach, just north of Patong. This area is turning into something of a gastronomic hot spot. This area now hosts at least four high-end restaurants – places that are remarkable not only for their succulent food but also their setting, décor, and atmosphere. Undoubtedly the most notable venue on the Kalim dining scene is Acqua, a contemporary styled Italian restaurant, the labour of love of Sardinian-born chef Alessandro Frau who turns out impeccable award-winning Sardinian seafood dishes accompanied by excellent Italian cuisine. With clean lines, a futuristic design and great views out over the Andaman, Acqua is a leading contender for one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants in Phuket. La Gritta is without doubt one of the most romantic restaurants in Phuket. Located in the compound of Amari Phuket at the southern end of Patong Bay, this fine-dining venue – as well as the whole resort - went through a complete refurbishing in 2013 before to reopen in 2014. The new La Gritta Italian Restaurant features a superb contemporary design throughout its two distinct areas respectively named: La Gritta, the restaurant itself which includes both indoor (air conditioned) and outdoor dining areas; and La Gritta Terrace – a modern cosy lounge partially open-air at the second floor. The two areas have stunning views over Patong Bay, and offer a unique place for a gourmet dinner under the stars, only ‘perturbed’ by the relaxing sound of the waves licking the shore, and the cool sea breeze refreshing the atmosphere and offering the ultimate tropical dinner. Home Kitchen, Bar & Bed is the new project of the multi-talented and hyper-creative Chef Daniel Isberg, whom opened this new restaurant, lounge bar and boutique hotel in the former Brush Restaurant at Kalim Beach, at the northern part of Patong Bay in August 2014.
Home Kitchen’s arty design comes from the sparkling creative brain of another talented Phuket character – Australian industrial artist John Underwood – who is famous for recycling and transforming old stuff into splendid pieces of art. Set in a two-storey building with the second floor shaped as an upside-down boat’s hull opened to the sea, the venue is highly original and fashionable; a perfect place for a stylish sundowner before a fine dinner prepared by internationally recognized head chef. Joe’s Downstairs may have a humble-sounding name, but in point of fact it is one of Phuket’s most prominent restaurants. The restaurant’s (‘down’) staircase lead to a perfectly located all-white restaurant settled on granite boulders overlooking the Patong Bay. Sam’s Steaks & Grill is Patong’s Holiday Inn Resort’s signature restaurant, serving excellent steaks and meat dishes. It is a classy air-conditioned and refreshingly designed steakhouse. Basically, Sam’s is divided into an open space dining area and a rather more intimate lounge with a modern wine cellar in between. This is fine dining without the excruciating pretentiousness often associated with it, indeed it’s quite the opposite – Sam’s staff members ooze enthusiasm. Sam’s has a well-deserved reputation for delivering high-quality products at reasonable prices. It doesn’t pretend to be the ‘best’ of anything but the combination of great service, opulent décor and design, excellent culinary skills, coupled with Thai hospitality easily catapults it into the higher-end restaurant category on the island, and rightly so. 6. Patong Seafood Food Court
Patong Seafood Food Court is a magnet for all seafood lovers visiting Patong Beach. The dozen or so excellent fresh seafood restaurants make it the biggest open-air dining complex in this popular resort town. Simply make your choice of fish, crab, prawn, or lobster, and it will be prepared for you in a flash. Patong Seafood Food Court starts getting busy in the late afternoon and stays open till late. Diners like this place because of its easy-going atmosphere and friendliness and menus usually have photographs of the dishes on offer with fair prices. Many people start their evening there before crossing the road to The Royal Paradise Complex Bazaar for shopping or heading down to Bangla Road for a dose of craziness.

Sea Hag is not only the flagship gay restaurant in Patong, but it stands on its own as a culinary landmark after countless years on the scene, serving traditional Thai cuisine. Owner Khun Kenya, has shown impeccable taste in décor and atmosphere and with this combination of good food and discernment it’s hard to find a better intimate dining location in this part of Patong – albeit gay or straight. The restaurant’s canny cuisine, rather than the tasteful atmosphere and décor, the gay vibe and the enthusiasm of its owner, is why people come to Sea Hag. The usual suspect dishes are here – steamed lemon fish with rice – an army of seafood recipes, fantastically huge tiger prawns with different dipping sauces and chicken, beef and pork sate starters and they are all done with panache and commitment. Le Versace is an outstanding – almost over-the-top - French restaurant located on Phra Baramee Road in the northern part of Patong Beach serving French dishes with panache. Its entire décor and furnishing is made of authentic Versace items – hence the moniker. It is also the highest open-air restaurant in Patong, with a superb lounge/terrace overlooking this popular resort town. The sounds are cool, the vistas impressive and the décor mildly jarring, but what about the cuisine? Gourmet connoisseurs will be happy to know that this restaurant is run by two members of the international Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, world renowned for its excellence and culinary expertise and the talent here at Le Versace is evident.
